This week is Christmas Chaos week for me. I have Christmas 'events' planned four of the next seven days.
I am going to try an do what Dave Ferguson said during the message at CCC this week and:
- Find a way to CELEBRATE in the chaos
- Remember, it's all about JESUS
- Be THANKFUL, really, really thankful
Dave suggests reading Luke 2 several times and letting the Christmas message sink in: God came here, in the flesh, to show us how to love each other and find our way back to him.
Just in case you don't have your Bible handy, here you go:
The Shepherds and the Angels
8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ[a] the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14"Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. Luke 2:8-16 NIV
I never really looked at it in great detail to be honest...I just kind of read through it like a tradition almost.
What caught my attention reading it just now from your post is that you hear about angels a bit in the Bible. Sometimes one or two, here or there.
This is the only part (until the rejoicing in Revelation at least), where you have a lot of them at once. One comes to give the news, and all the sudden a bunch of them show up like a heavenly "World series Victory Party." Proclaiming and wanting to go see this miracle and tell everyone about it.
How often do you hear about Angels getting excited about anything? It was like one Angel went to give the news and the others couldn't restrain themselves.
Great Stuff!

Janus,
Thanks for the comment. My favorite part of this passage is the shepards witnessing the glory of the Lord and 'they were terrified.' Wouldn't we all--at first at least. And then the angel telling them, don't be afraid and before you know it the heavenly host is praising God.

It also has a vibrant night life and a great music scene. Once your child is aware how to use it safely, you can get him or her a 50cc engine quad bike as they are great for starters. The right design, layout and proper blend of activities will facilitate the movement of children, of different age ranges, from one interesting activity to another within their contained playground.

However it's really hard to feel sorry for kids from my generation for feeling "alienated" and turning to nu-metal for validation of all their filthy, regressive emotions.
