Last week I had the privelage of teaching about serving at Restore. To prepare for my talk, I asked several of our contributors in our Guest Services ministry to tell me why they serve on our teams. What I received back both surprised me and challenged. Here's one:
Part of what I love about coming to Restore is that "the people are the church". Therefore, contributing with guest services is my way of helping the Restore team create an environment that will help bring people back to God. I not only look forward to contributing each week as it is very rewarding to me personally, but also feel it is one of the most important events of my week! --Cindy
Cindy talks about connection. This was true of many of the responses I received. Our contributors desire to connect with others. I would have guessed that--eventually. But I assumed people's desire to make a difference or help others would come before connecting. They do want to make a difference but they also want to belong first. Belonging (especially in a church) comes before believing. I knew that but I needed to be reminded again.
If you're planting a church or leading a team remember that people want to belong. What's this look like for you?
I'll share more responses from our contributors in the days ahead.
