We rightly cite Ephesians 4:12 when calling people to action:
[12] to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
(Ephesians 4:12 ESV)
But I think there is a big difference between equipping and mobilizing. I may get in trouble with the Greek scholars here but I am certain that mobilizing is a better 'lens' for us to use when thinking about mission.
Mobilizing is a miliatary phrase.
Equipping is part of mobilizing
But mobilizing also connotes 'awakening.'
So when you're thinking about equipping your saints, ask yourself if mobilizing isn't a better filter.
